ffMpeg: Transcoding To mp4?

Is anybody using ffmpeg to transcode .mpg to high-quality iPod?

I've gotten as far as this, which doesn't abend - but that's
about all.... no compression to speak of and not putting out
iPod's mp4 format.

ffmpeg -i S:\Recorded\a.mpg -target ntsc-svcd
s:\transcoded\a.mp4
