For better service, Verizon is cutting off Usenet as of September 30.

Of course, they are not reducing their rates for Internet service. What they actually said is that they are not raising their rates for this decrease in service. They cut off service to all but the Big 8 some time ago, and they did not reduce their rates for that either.

Now the question is, is it worth my money to get a Supernews (or other Usenet) account? As the years have gone by since I first used net news and then Usenet, the Signal-to-Noise ratio has continually decreased until now it is mostly trolls and spammers.

So is it worth an additional monthly fee to me to get Usenet access? I lost access to alt.pinups and alt.linux.redhat in the previous reduction in service. Now I lose access to Sidney Lamb's informative posts.

I suppose there are other Verizon subscribers out there. What are they proposing to do October 1?
