Re: Software for online backup/versioning file system?

I haven't used it, but afbackup is a client-server backup system.
If your distribution doesn't have packages for it, you can get
it from http://sourceforge.net/projects/afbackup/

I took a brief look into afbackup and it appears it lacks the ability to handle versioning, at least
in a transparent way.

What I'm looking for is some sort of Dropbox clone. Basically, it would be a central repository
which anyone would be able to install on their LAN or access over any network connection and every
registered user would be able to access the repository and update the files. Stuff such as WebDAV
appears to be a "swing and miss" type of technology, as it fails to preserve versioning when an
application employs some methods to save files to disk and typical revision control systems such as
subversion don't appear to be able to do this job properly as they are tayloured to handle source
code projects.

So, is there anything that fits this description in the free software world?
