Hi,
I just install Linux OPENSUSE 11.3 on my laptop. Although I can
connect line ethernet cable, WiFi does not work. The Toshiba laptop
wifi is Atheros AR5001X chipset. I want to go through with the
following guidance as the NetworkManager cannot setup automatically.

The first problem is about:
as a root check your WiFi interface and bring it up

What is a root check? Could you explain it to me? How to do the check?
I have no knowledge on network setup. Thanks a lot.

That means to 'become' the user "root", the superuser,
adminsistrative acount, and then check the wifi interface with
your increased priveleges.

You'd become root by doing something like:

$ su
or
$ su root
then enter the root password
(which will not display as you type it...)
or
$ sudo su
if your system is set up that way

Thanks to all of you.
Now, I can use the laptop to ping the address: 192.168.1.254. That is
OK. But my laptop firefox does not work. What configuration I can do
for that ? What procedure next?

Another question, the DSL router IP originally was 192.168.2.1. When I
test the router configuration at a desktop computer, it was changed to
192.168.1.254. It puzzled me a lot. What could cause this? How can I
change it back to 192.168.2.1. Thanks a lot.- Masquer le texte des messages précédents -

Further information. I can use the bash to ping 192.168.1.254. But
there is no connection by Firefox with 192.168.1.254. Any information
needed? Thanks,
.
