why not write it a real language like C?

I did check into moving to C++ on several occasions over the years but decided that it would be a decision best be left for the future. The programs I have developed could quickly evolve into a totally different form depending on whether or not government scientists and programmers start using them. So, major programming changes at the present time might not be worth the effort. Perl is actually quite a versatile language that is easy to use for intermediate level programmers once they have learned some of the basics.
