How can I set default sound card?

Hi All,

I have two sound cards:

$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xfb9d8000 irq 33
1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xf7f7c000 irq 17

"0" (default) and "1" often reverse their order when I
boot up. Is there a way in my rc.local (command line)
that I can set which one of these cards is my default?

Many thanks,
-T
.
