I can't speak for Cygwin, but I've checked a number of shells on my
GNU/Linux system.
Provides pushd (and some friends): bash csh tcsh zsh
Does not provide pushd: dash ksh93 ksh rc sh
So if your shell doesn't have pushd, then maybe you might want to consider
switching to one that does provide it.
