Think of it this way. Your computer does not have an IP address. Each
network device on your comuter has an IP address. That address is either
assigned to a device by the user, or through DHCP (from your ISP.)

So, when your modem connects to your isp it will be assigned an address
from them. This address will be a public, routable address.

Your network card that connects your windows machine to your Red Hat
machine, however, needs to be assigned by you. As the other responder said,
use an address in the private, non-routeable range of 192.168.1.x

You have another problem though. Your windows machine must be able to route
packets destined for the internet from the network card to the modem and
out to the internet. For that you need Internet connection sharing, or a
proxy. The configuration will depend on that.
