Because switch makes the network more efficient. Why so? Because switch only
sends packets to the port they are destinied to. Hub just takes the incoming
packet and sends it to all other ports. Especially if there's heavy network
traffic between many computers switch gives a significant boost to
throughput and latencies.
Besides, using a switch makes packet sniffing much harder. And, at least
here in Finland, it is actually cheaper to buy a 10/100M switch than to buy
a 10/100M hub.
