This is a little odd, I hope someone can help me on this....
I have a netscreen 5xt firewall working transparently (just fyi, not part of
problem, I think) in front of a web server. The ISP has given me a /27
network of ip addresses. When I set the broadcast address for the main
ethernet interface, it gets translated to an address not even on the same
network... It works, but I do not understand how/why this happens.
Example:
network xx.xx.67.0/27
subnet 255.255.255.224
gateway xx.xx.67.1
first usable xx.xx.67.2
last usable xx.xx.67.30
broadcast xx.xx.67.31
when I ifconfig the interface, the broadcast address shows up as
xx.xx.17.30, even though it was entered correctly with the command "ifconfig
eth0 -b xx.xx.67.31". It's running redhat enterprise 2.1 for the OS. Any
help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike Smith
