Now I have the two machines connected physically modem to modem via
the usual telephone modular cord. I have Linux of sorts running on
both machines. I have minicom on both machines and I can access the
AT settings of the modem on each machine via minicom.
Now how do I convince the main machine to send a login prompt to the
slave machine and the slave machine to recognize and answer it?
What should I set each modem to be (e.g., ATH1 meaning off hook)
In short how do I get this physical connection to become an electrical
connection and then a software connection?
I have already explained why a NIC connection is not likely to happen
because the slave machine is an elderly Packard Bell. It has a midi
port but no visible serial port :=) Any available slots are almost
certainly ISA. Hence the modem to modem lashup.
All responses appreciated.
