Well, maybe for the US markets. The european ones even do specifically
mention whether they can or can not be used in a direct connection
that way. This might simply be a regulation needed for the EU
compliance; since I don't have the ITU regulations available right
now, I for sure couldn't tell whether it was covered there or not.
OTOH, if both systems are in the same room, why using modems at all?
A simple null-modem cable would do the same...
