We are using lots of Cisco Aironet 340 cards, but never had the problem you
described. We are assigning ip address only with dhcp. We are running
suse7.x as well as suse8.x linux distributions. I guess your problem might
be, that you do not set the required SSID and/or/ the WEP key when the card
is inserted. This should be done by iwconfig. Because of this there is no
connection to the accesspoint and so dhclient cannot get an address. Just a
theory of course .....
