No real answer, just a data point...

jbuchana@nemo$ ypcat -k netgroup
all_hosts (zaphod,,) (flenser,,) (cerberus,,) (hobbes,,) (nessus,,) (zaphod.buchanan1.net,,) (flenser.buchanan1.net,,) (cerberus.buchanan1.net,,) (hobbes.buchanan1.net,,) (nessus.buchanan1.net,,) (nemo,,) (nemo.buchanan1.net,,)
jbuchana@nemo$ ypmatch all_hosts netgroup
(zaphod,,) (flenser,,) (cerberus,,) (hobbes,,) (nessus,,) (zaphod.buchanan1.net,,) (flenser.buchanan1.net,,) (cerberus.buchanan1.net,,) (hobbes.buchanan1.net,,) (nessus.buchanan1.net,,) (nemo,,) (nemo.buchanan1.net,,)
jbuchana@nemo$

These are a mix of Redhat 9 and Mandrake 7.2 and 8.21 machines. I did
the ypmatch on a RH 9 machine, and the ypserver is a RH9 machine.

At work I have 11 (supposed to be 12, one is still lost in shipping)
RH 7.3 machines that that work fine with far more complex netgroup
maps. They are served by HPUX 11.x NIS slaves.

I must say that sometimes when I use the @all_hosts in /etc/exports
here at home, it doesn't always work at boot time, and I have to
manually re-export. That never seems to happen at work.
