OK, I have win xp pro and Rh9 and a working dsl connnection

disconnect the connection and force hibernation and note
the results after booting into linux.

The only factor that I know of which physically affects
both linux and windows hardware settings is due to the bios, and
there must be a physical explanation of a physical consequence.
