I took your advice and reproduced the problem.
I enabled hibernation and left my dsl connection turned on.
Later I booted into Redhat and my ppp1 failed (it was working).
With hibernation still on, I turned the dsl connection on and left
it on while I rebooted into linux, I didn't wait very long.
The ppp1 dsl connection failed again.
With hibernation still on and the connection still active in windows
I turned the computer off. Then I rebooted into linux and the
connection was not restored, it still failed. It is possible that my
dsl server connection could have been busy I suppose.
With hibernation on I disconnected the windows dsl connection.
This time when booting to linux, ppp1 connected OK.
I turned hibernation off but left the connection active in windows
while rebooting into linux. The linux connection failed.
With hibernation turned off and the connection active in windows
I rebooted in linux and the connection failed as above; then I
turned the computer off from linux. Then I turned it back on
and booted into linux. The ppp1 connection was restored in
this scenario which gives some legitimacy to Jacob's experience.
I am not able to reproduce your experience though close, because
you reported turning just hibernation off solved the problem and
I still had the problem with hibernation off but connection still active.
For me, disconnecting the dsl connection worked to allow a
linux connection with hibernation turned on or off. With hibernation
turned on and dsl connected, turning the computer off did not fix it.
With hibernation turned off and dsl connected, a soft reboot would not
enable ppp1, but turning the computer off, did restore ppp1 to linux
on the next boot, which is a little different than the hibernation on,
behavior.
However the major factor according to my test is that if the dsl
connection is turned off, it will not be impacted by hibernation
and when you boot into linux it will work <OK>
If you don't disconnect dsl then it won't work in linux whether or
not you have turned hibernation on or off, is my result.
Perhaps someone else will report on their experience.
Regards,
Stepen
