ntpd log question

I've started running ntpd on my notebook computer, and I've noticed the
following sort of entry occurs regularly in the log:
30 Dec 18:01:13 ntpd[681]: time reset 3.954465 s
30 Dec 18:01:13 ntpd[681]: synchronisation lost
Why does it say sync lost, immediately after reseting the time?
