Should I turn off apmd on my linux server (firewall)?
My setup:
Server: RedHat 7.3 server (kernel 2.4.20) as my firewall (iptables)
connected to a cable modem. My client DHCP on the server gets the
dynamic IP just fine (lease renewal).
Workstation: Win2000 (behind firewall)
I have ifup-post restart the firewall (iptables) for the lease
renewal.
Problem:
I try to use the workstation for internet activities and the server is
in suspend mode (stopped networking). With the server in suspend
mode, the workstation's packets go no where.
So,
1) do I stop the apmd (don't see a benefit for a non-laptop) or
2) take out the network stop in apmd (essentially the server would
probably never go into standby).
I did read Ranch's iptables and HOWTO's and searched everywhere for
any thoughts on iptables and apmd, but couldn't find anything on this.
thanks.
