i just got linux installed but can't connect to the network - i have my
machine
hooked up to my netgear router via a cable (don't think it supports wireless
and since i plan to use it as a server cable is fine anyway)
so wehn i booted up, it asked me to fill in my network info..
i answered 192.168.0.4 (.2 and .3 have been reserved by my other
windows machines). then used the default for network (192.168.0.0)
subnet mask 255.255.255.0, broadcast 192.168.0.255
and gateway (192.168.0.1) - this is confirmed in /etc/netenv
the light on my router lights up indicating a connection. but when i
browsed the router from my windows machine, at "attached devices",
it only shows my windows clients but NOT the linux machine. i cna't
even ping 192.168.0.1 from my linux machine.
ran the following commands:
/sbin/ifconfig
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr: 127.0.0.1 Mask: 255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU: 3924 Metric: 1
/sbin/route -n
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flasg Metric Ref Use Iface (nothing after this
cat /proc/net/dev
lo: 17764 342 0 0 0 0 0 0 17764 342 0 0
eth0: 0 across the line
uname -a
Linux zhongcang 2.2.20-idepci #1 Sat Apr 20 12:35:19 EST 2002 i686 unknown
any ideas what i could do?
