I am an AT&T Wireless customer who bought a second hand
Novatel Merlin G100 Card thats branded AT&T Wireless. The card shows
up as /dev/ttyS2 on my Acernote 350c laptop. AT commands work fine.
Here is the problem
According to AT&T Wireless, ppp connections don't need pap or
chap. They claim my SIM card has that info. But I can't get pppd to
even connect at all! I get messages like Unknown compression type. and
AT&T Wireless's server wont support bsd compression either!
I tried to setup the card with windows 3.1 on the same laptop
(it only has 8MB of ram.
Trumpet Winsock 3.0d gets so far. Not sure whats wrong Not
sure if its the number I am dialing . Heres the info I tried
ATD*99***1#
I see nothing in the gibberish saying ppp at all.
I see on the Linux UNthethered web page scripts for T-Mobile. which I
have emulated with zero luck.
According to the tech at AT&T wireless I need to get the ppp
up and then run dhcpcd! (why do they do that is beyond me.)
IN short, Does anyone have a working connect script for AT&T
Wireless using a Novatel Merlin G100 card (its GPRS not CDPD)
I would like to use my laptop on the go. Being Legally blind
and short of cash, I can barely stand windows 3.1, Never mind Windows
95 or later! In addion to the fact that my laptop is used for text
browsing only.
My laptop is running Slackware 8.0 if that is any help.
