Hi
I'm new to linux and I installed suse linux 9.0 on one of my two desktops, on a new 60 gig harddrive. The installation was quite uneventful and I do have linux up and running. I got LinNeighbourhood and now I have the WinXP directories mounted in my linux directory so that I can see those shares.
I want the Win XP machine to see the linux drives, and so I need the samba server to be running.
YAST does not show the samba server software as an installed package. The samba client is working quite OK as you can see from above with LinNeighbourhood.
There is a samba server rpm package on CD #3 of the suse installation but I cannot get YAST to install that software. I have browsed the web and read as much as I can find, but nothing really points me in the right direction as to how to get that samba software up and running on my machine.
Do I need to configure some file on my machine before I can get the server to be installed? How do I get that rpm on CD #3 installed? Can I run the samba client and server together? What am I to do?
Best wishes.
Vernon
