I've been trying to setup NIS for the past 2 days and have had extreme
difficulty.
The server, and client I'm using to test with both run Debian. I've
followed the Debian NIS HowTo and the one on TLDP.
I'm at a bit of a loss because I cannot find _anyone_ that has had the
same problem as me. The client can ypcat any shared file, and 'ypmatch
bhearsum passwd' returns a result. But I still can't login as 'bhearsum'!
I've tried many many variations in /etc/nsswitch.conf
passwd: compat
passwd_compat: nis
OR
passwd: files nis
OR
passwd: nis
None of the above work. Am I missing something here? Does PAM have to be
NIS aware? Should I turn shadow passwords off?
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
