Well, I would like to exchange files - ie: work on files on both computers, spread sheets, word programs, etc. transfer the micro$oft mail addresses and contacts, more to get off of Micro$oft things...... but GOT to run dual for a while and don't want to re-input a LOT of data...
or is it sharing??? in Linux?? a VERY newbe.
I believe that if both computers can 'see each other' it will work?? or am I WWWAAAYYY off base?? At this time there's nada between them???
thanks - jb

openoffice.org (on Linux or Windows) can read most M$ office formats. Sharing contacts is not completely straightforward: the "enterprise" way is to use LDAP which most mail clients understand but for a small scale network you can probably get away with running Mozilla Thunderbird as a mail client on both machines. I believe it will import contact lists from Outlook and you can store them in a shared area.

THANKS AGAIN Robert,
Being REALLY basic:
please - how to run "samba"
You have to install it and read the documentation ;-) but it is almost certainly on your distribution disk and to read the documentation, point your web browser to "www.samba.org" - you won't have to read it all because yours is a simple application of samba.
and "see the manpage"
Type, for example, "man mount" at the command line (followed by RETURN). "man man" will tell you about the "man" command. And if you are running Gnome, as you probably are with FC4, you can probably get there from "Help" somewhere in the menu system.
.
I understand your directions - but can't get there from here (yet)
thanks - jbm
