I'll try that next. What we did right now, was isolate the web01's
internal network connection, and the connections to db01 and app01 on
their own, cheap-o 5 port Linksys gigabit capable switch.
In this way, these machines won't be on any Netgear product, and will
be isolated from the rest of the machines on the network. Actually,
web01's external connection still hits a Netgear switch that goes out
to the world... but we were never having any problems with our
connections from our local computers to web01's external-facing NIC.
We also changed all the ethernet cables on those machines that are
connected to the Linksys switch, for good measure.
Unfortunately, there's no change in the behavior. Even with the
machines isolated to just themselves, with new cabling, all connected
by a Linksys switch, they still have the hangs in large screen outputs
and the occasional temporary connection refused error message between
apache and tomcat via mod_jk.
I think we might try and downgrade the machines to RHELv3 to verify
that that actually makes the problems go away for us, since it seemed
to us that our only machines having this problem were all RHELv4, and
none of our machines with RHELv3 have had any issues.
