Hi,

I set up such a system on a Pentium 120 Mhz with 6 Gb hard disk, using Red Hat 7.2. It has been working fine; (24 hours/day for more than 3-4 years now). And safe as well as there never was any intrusion. I can mail you the exact steps I did follow to set it up if you are interested. I documented the whole thing for myself. It would be just fine if others could take profit from it.

This computer also offers ftp, web services and Samba/CIFS service. (This is quite optional but cost like nothing to set up if you know how).

Basic hardware; you need two network cards; an adsl connection connected to one card while your network will be connected to the other through a switch or hub (My setup). Or 1 ethernet card and a 56k modem (though this is what we may say a variation from my setup).

If you don't want a crossover cable, you definetely need a hub or switch, so that other computer can connect to this router, as "Giovanni" says.
