vlans - a wireless switch or router

i want to create a subnetwork with vlans and would prefer using a
wireless switch due to latency and problems of centralising security
issues - i want to localise a major % of the access lists and security
features. can anyone advise me from implementing a switch? a friend
told me he'd prefer just doing the whole hog with a wireless router and
save myself all the trouble but security is high on my list. by the
way, i want to implement this architecture using the freesco distro.
TIA
.
