How can I change the nas:/opt/home NFS mount to be something like
\\nas\homes or \\nas\opt\home/<user> and use samba / cifs instead of
NFS?
Does your NAS support Windows File Sharing protocol?
yes. My NAS is a custom built box running Fedora FC5
with 1.5TB for drive storage. I use autofs to mount and
unmount the 7 drives as needed and I have a script to
spin down the drives when not in use. automount/samba/hdparm -y
keep the box running cool and quiet when it's not being
accessed.
I already use SAMBA / cifs for some of my access... it's
the /home/<user> access that I can't figure out. I can mount
the \\nas\opt\home partition as root on my main linux box,
but then the users can't access their files because of
permission issues. They uid/gid stuff does not seem to
work. I don't know if the individual users need to mount
\\nas\homes ( and if they do... how does that work from
the /etc/passwd file ) or what... hence the post....
