Cannot connect t internal mail server

I have installed: SuseLinux10.1 + postfix and fetchmail for the mail
server.
From a Windows client I can
"telnet mail-server 25"
and
"telnet mail-server 110",
that is I can access my mail server.
A message posted via telnet is sent from the server and arrives to
destination; and the server is able to receive messages from the net.
But the mail client (Thunderbird) cannot access the mail server, thus
giving error.
Fetchmail, postfix, pop3, imap are running. What more?
