A simple solution would be to bridge the ethernet and wireless
interfaces together on the Windows XP desktop and connecting the
ethernet interface to the hub.

Could you do that the same with a linux box? I have just set up a linux
box (450mhz CPU, 256mb ram) with fedora core 2 so I can turn it into a
gateway.
