Yes, it is, but why do you want to do so? An access point is an almost
unexpensive device, uses way less power than a fully fledged machine and
doesn't need any special hardware or software to run. So exactly what
kind of problem are you trying to solve doing so?
It's partly a hobby project idea, and also a specific need. I realize
an alternative would be to run a small linux distro on my current
access point hardware. But I need wireless devices to go through my
linux machine where I will have netem rules, tcpdump traces, etc.
So to answer my questions, for simply running an AP, do I indeed need
host ap? And why does host ap only work with specific drivers?
