Oops, so after yet more research, it appears that a lot of wireless
chipsets do not support master mode, hence the necessity to use host
ap. Also, even if my chipset supported master mode, I am interfacing it
in linux via ndiswrapper which I don't believe has an interface for
setting the device in master mode.
