Re: hosting a wireless access point

So to answer my questions, for simply running an AP, do I indeed need
host ap? And why does host ap only work with specific drivers?I believe I've found the answer to my initial question. To run as an
access point, I only need to set my wireless interface to master mode
with iwconfig. I am still unclear as to what host ap does, and the
hostap's webpage is down.

Oops, so after yet more research, it appears that a lot of wireless
chipsets do not support master mode, hence the necessity to use host
ap. Also, even if my chipset supported master mode, I am interfacing it
in linux via ndiswrapper which I don't believe has an interface for
setting the device in master mode.
