Maybe this is Linux FTP server (vsftpd) that sucks.. :-)
Easy to test. Use a graphical Windows client. Try WS-ftp, or FileZilla.

I'd test it myself, but switching my office laptop on means I'll read the
company mail. I'd rather not find out what problems 'they' managed to create
_this time_. :-)
