mono only using C# and not VB

Hi all,

I hope this is a good place to ask this, if not, I am sorry.
I recently installed MONO on a server I have. For one reason or another it only seems to compile and run C# apps, but not VB for example.
I can tell this by the error code 'cs1002'.
It basically says 'where is the ;'. I use debian stable.
Can someone maybe point me in the right direction to get this working?
