No, he doesn't. This is PPPoE and his IP address will be for the PPP
interface, not the ethernet interface.

shit, what a mess... i've tryed to help this guy in comp.os.linux.setup in a
thread with the same name, and he doesn't even know what type of modem he
own... this guy is obcess by putting is ethernet card working with ppp
protocols. he didn't told me nothing usefull for me to help him, except
that he is a great php developer :)

so it is a SmartAX MT882 ADSL Router FROM Huawei Technologies, that brings
some light.

so to set his internet:

--forget all about pppoe
--set the eth0 interface to:
ip = 192.168.1.2
netmask = 255.255.255.0
gateway = 192.168.1.1

--next browse tohttp://192.168.1.1
and set username and password inside the router (this will be done just once
if it is not done yet) and set all settings regarding telefonic rules of
his country.

internet will be running...

yes another thing that I tell you that please rectify your
communication style. may be you are a great Linux expert but that
never mean that you post all of your rudeness when you communicate
with other.
