What IP address information have you entered? Are you entering the same info
you're using in Windows? Can you PING yourself on the IP address you've
entered? What about 127.0.0.1. What's the output of ifconfig eth0?

Oh just a thought. When you've entered the info in Ubuntu is the
interface "up"? Try ifconfig eth0 up in the shell.
