Re: linux does not auto detect monitor type

I changed the monitor from the one which was present during Linux
installation.Nothing is shown on the monitor. It seems , linux cannot
detect and automaticaaly find the driver for new CRT display
connected . Only if I can login I may try to configure the new CRT
display. As I am not at all able to login, how can I proceed.First I
tried with an LCD monitor but it didn't work. I thought there may be
incompatibility with the LCD . Now I connected a new CRT display ,
still the problems continue.

I assume tha t as Linux boots up, you get the bare text shwoing on the
screen and maybe even the bootup splash screens. If you really get nothing
then it is NOT a linux problem, it is display card problem
Anyway, let it boot up with nothing showing. Then do
alt-ctrl-F1
This should bring up a console with a bare login: on the screen. You can
now log in as root and run whatever your system uses to set up your screens
and system. The problem is NOT that linux does not recognise the new
monitor, it is your display card that is having trouble or is wrongly set
up. Any newer monitor should be able to handle the old monitor's setup.

Or was your old monitor a 4000x3000 dpi monitor?

Thanks in advance.
