Samba mount fails to reconnect

Hi All,

We've been having an issue with Samba for some time now that we cannot
figure out. We have many web servers running Red Hat EL4 connecting
to a Windows 2000 file server. Each web server is mounting a share on
the file server via smbfs.

Occassionally that link will go dead. If you do an ls on the
directory it just hangs forever. I can (force)
unmount and remount the share, however the same thing happens (link is
dead, unable to read).

The only way for the machine to recover and reconnect is to reboot it.

Is there something I'm missing here? Is there a better way for the
machine to recover? I have witnessed the behavior on samba versions
3.0.21 and 3.0.24.

We find these messages in /var/log/messages at about the same time:

Aug 30 11:54:27 ejpweb13 kernel: smb_proc_readX_data: offset is larger
than SMB_READX_MAX_PAD or negative!
Aug 30 11:54:27 ejpweb13 kernel: smb_proc_readX_data: -59 > 64 || -59
< 0

Thanks
