why does *everybody* use 192.168.0.1, and not simpler 10.0.0.1?

not true... every examples in books use 192.168
the defaults of my router is 192.168

Perhaps for someone who don't really understand IP adressing. And if that is the case, s/he probably shouldn't be messing with it in the first place.
