I recently purchased an IBM TinkPad X31. I did not buy the Ultrabase or
external CD-drive at the same time so I had to install using another
notebook computer then placing the HD into the X31. The X31 works well
with GNU/Linux. I installed N-ix Business Linux (a RedHat Linux
derivative) and then downloaded and compiled the newly released Intel PRO
Wireless 2100 device driver from Intel. I have SUSE Linux installed on an
IBM R30 notebook computer and it is great too.

GNU/Linux on an IBM X31.
