Hi,
I'm intending to switch from SuSE 8.2 Prof to some kind of
Debian (true Debian,Knoppix,Gnoppix, kanotix, etc). All my other
(old) machines are running some kind of Debian and I'm quite
happy with them. Due to my notebook[1] being a year old now I
figure it shouldn't be to hard converting.
Since everything is working fine I was wondering which files I
should pay special attention to before reinstalling, i.e might
make converting easier. My main concern are hardware
configuration issues.
Googling and looking through the archives I've found many
interesting links. But most of them refer to Kernel 2.6. Since my
notebook is in contact with electricity 99% of the time I'm not
really concerned with the problem APM vs ACPI. More important to
me are things like:
(a) CD-R/CD-RW/DVD/DVD-RAM reading and writing
(b) USB (mouse/USB-Stick)
(c) eth0 (static vs dynamic IP; don't care about WLAN so far)
(d) easy switching between XF86Config between Highresdisplay and
Beamer1024...
So my questions are:
Which files are explicitly worth saving/keeping an eye on?
Are there links out there that I missed?
Any pointers to RTFMs I've missed?
Appreciating any feedback,
Patrick

Then you go bounding after it and bring it back!
Snoopy: Maybe we should think about this a little more.
