Hi all

With older versions of Linux (Kernel 2.4.xx) I was not
able to get the built in WLAN interface of this laptop,
Acer TravelMate 290, working. I've just inserted an
802.11b PCMCIA card and that was it.

Just a couple of days ago I've moved to SuSE 9.1
(Kernel 2.6.4, SuSE patched). It detects the
interface as "Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Driver"
and loads the module ipw2100. I get a new interface
eth1 (eth0 being the ReakTex RTL8139).

iwconfig eth1
-------------
eth1 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"netgear" Nickname:"dsk1324"
           Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: 00:00:00:00:00:00
           Bit Rate=0kb/s Tx-Power=0 dBm
           Retry:on RTS thr=2304 B Fragment thr:2332 B
           Encryption key:off

I've configured this under YaST (sorry, I've not much
experience with WLAN). It gave me a "profile"
/etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-wlan-bus-pci-0000:01:02.0
which looks OK to me.

Some lines from dmesg:
----------------------
Detected ipw2100 PCI device at 0000:01:02.0, dev: eth1, mem:
0xE0000000-0xE0000F
FF -> e0b57000, irq: 11
...
eth1: Using hotplug firmware load.
eth1: Firmware not available or load failed
eth1: ipw2100_get_firmware failed: -2
eth1: Failed to power on the adapter.
eth1: Failed to start the firmware.
...

The net result is that eth1 returns varions errors
when I try iwconfig.

Can somebody give me a hint? I'll be glad to provide
more debug information.

Regards
Arun
