On "other" OSs (Windows and WinCE) the wireless tools allow you to see
all close networks and identify their essid, but I don't know what
tool I should use under Linux to achieve the same thing. I have been
in the position where there are a number of wireless networks but I
don't know them name of the one I want to join and have used
a WinCE device to tell me the name, but I'd prefer to
do this directly on my laptop top.
(Note this isn't for wardriving but for attaching to networks in
hotels, I recently was in a position where I couldn't contact the
pay network because I kept getting access to some hotel internal network,
and didn't know the name of the pay network until I asked a Windows user).
Are their suitable tools?
thanks
Alan
