    One would assume that if given hardware was supported in 8.2, it would be
    supported in 9.1. But you cannot necessarily assume that something
    supported in a newer version was supported in an older version, especially
    for recent hardware. Although, sometimes newer modules do break things
    for older hardware, or may not support it if it has been obsolete for some
    time. For example I had a 10/100 nic that worked fine with older tulip
    module, but was troublesome with newer tulip modules. And X v4 no longer
    had accelerated video support for S3 Trio64 that was in X v3 (although,
    it would work unaccelerated with standard SVGA server).

    So if you want a specific answer, list specific hardware.
