Have an R50 Thinkpad with XP which can't be modified.
Thinking of porting some minimal Linux kernel to a USB flash memory
stick, and booting from it. The R50 recognizes the SanDisk
Cruzer mini stick, but won't boot a Win98 configuration.
So am gonna try Linux.
What are the steps to make a 128 USB flash memory stick
contain a complete kernel, using RH 9.0? Understand I don't want to use
it to boot TO the Thinkpad, but the entire Linux OS needs
to be on the memory stick. All I need from the OS (after it boots) is a $:
so I can copy some files off the ThinkPad and onto the memory
stick in an emergency- type situation where XP won't boot,
but the hard drive is intact.
Of course, I could do the whole thing from a bootable CD,
BUT that wouldn't be any fun now, would it?
