    I'm trying to use Openoffice.org 1.1.1 (with FC2) on a HP ZE4800
    laptop with

This one program shows me all kinds of corruption while I'm typing. It
isn't obvious when I just load a document, but as I cursor around and
add/delete text, little snippets of characters are left behind all
    over the place.

Is there a known fix for this problem?
