Take a look and see if you have the 'resolve.conf' file in /etc/ , if not
,create one and put in the lines:

#begin

nameserver 192.168.0.1
search

#end

Is the XP-box acting like a DHCP server? If it is you may get an IP
automaticly.

What is the output for: 'ifconfig' on the Linux box?
