I was thinking about how easy or difficult it is to change a hard
drive on various models of laptops. In some other thread, I said that
it's pretty hard to change the hard drive on a Sony Z505, and I know
that it's quite easy to do so on an NEC Versa laptop. And then there's
that Toshiba I saw with the slide-out hard disk tray, which makes it
really simple to change the hard disk.
I was reading the "Quick Specs" for a HP nx5000, and it says
"user-removable hard drives." Has anybody tried removing the hard
drive on a nx5000?
I'm interested in this because a hard drive upgrade is a good way to
extend the life of an old laptop; and because if it's really easy to
swap hard drives, it might allow the machine to be much more
versatile, with say one disk for your favourite Linux installation,
and another one with FreeBSD on it or something like that. So if you
have a laptop and you've taken the hard drive out, please tell me how
you did it, and how difficult it was.
