I've taken a look at my Compaq R3000z which as far as I know is identical
to the HP5000z. The drive is behind a door that is held in place by two
screws. It's fairly easy to replace but I don't think the connector is
designed to repeatedly plug drives in and out. If you want to multiboot
just get a drive that's big enough to hold everything. Laptop drives are
available in sizes upto 100G which is more than enough. I have a 60G drive
that's set up to triple boot, XP and two Linux distributions. 60G is a
little tight because I couldn't get XP to shrink down to less than 12G. I
have 6G for each / partition and the remainder of the drive is used for
/home. If 60G works, then 100G should be great.
