I'm trying to install Linux on a PowerPC that was given to me. Originally
it was a 7600, but I've upgraded the motherboard to that of an 8600,
increased the RAM to 384M, replaced the disk drives with two 2G drives (OS
9.1 on the first and Linux on the second), replaced the L2 cache chip with a
512K cache, and replaced the CPU with a 200 MHz 604e. I hope to further
upgrade the CPU to a G3 before long.

Anyhow, I'm trying to install Debian on this machine. I'm using BootX to
install and I've managed to get the machine to start Linux in text mode.
Now I want to get it running X-windows.

I remember that during the install process I was asked the card manufacturer
and the address of the video card. I don't have any idea what these
settings should be for a PowerPC 7600/8600. Nor do I have any idea how to
determine the amount of video ram present or how to configure the sound
    hardware properly.

I've read through the documents at www.debian.org, but without success. Can
anyone tell me the appropriate video/sound settings to get X windows up and
    going on this FrankenMac?

    Thanks,

    - Mike
