I am new to the PowerPC/Mac world having recently purchased an iBook G4.
Whilst i am hugely impressed with Mac OS X, I am very keen to install Linux
as I've used it now for years in the x86 world...

I decided to try Debian and found that disk partitioner won't recognise the
disk (I was following the instructions by Branden Robinson) Instead I tried
pdisk from within Mac OS X. It however refuses to modify the partition map
and responds with the message "Map not writable"

Perhaps, do i need to mount something with r/w??

    Note I have already tried:
    - toggling the read-only setting in pdisk
    - running within sudo
    - running in Console Mode

Very grateful if anyone has any other suggestions...

In case it is helpful here is the output from a listing from within pdisk:

    Command (? for help): p
    /dev/rdisk0 map block size=512
#: type name length base ( size )
       1: Apple_partition_map Apple 63 @ 1
